ANDREI VOSKRESENSKI
Photographer / Visual artist / Filmmaker
About my photographic technique
I love analog photography and especially the laboratory process, and I believe that the laboratory stage of printing in creating a photographic image is just as important, and sometimes even more important, than the stage of shooting.
In 1998 I got into a training studio for the Minsk photographers and popularizers of silver and alternative photography, Albert Tsekhanovich and Viktor Zhuravkov. From that moment I fell in love with the laboratory and the photographic process in general. In the training studio, I gained experience in black and white printing, and post-processing of images: toning, redevelopment, tin process. Albert Tsekhanovich was in charge of the studio’s exhibition activities and special attention was always paid to the quality and nobility of the final photographic print. This principle has become key in my approach to photography.
I have always been interested in ancient manual methods of imaging and combining them with modern technology. Working professionally in the high-tech field of filmmaking, in one way or another, in my daily life, I turn to photography. These areas of activity for me are not mutually exclusive, but complementary. And I often use what I find in photography in cinema and vice versa. Studying and mastering the experience of previous masters, and using the possibilities of new modern technologies allows you to develop your own approach to working with the material. And the combination of the visual cultures of film, photography and painting helps to achieve the sound of each individual work.
